Parent Involvement and Education

Parents are the first and most important part of their child’s development. Coordination between home and school is critical for the optimal development of children with delays.
 

Parents can help program staff by:

  • Suggesting ways to work with their child based on the child’s likes and dislikes
  • Providing input on learning goals and objectives and what is important to them
  • Continuing instruction on goals and objectives in the home
  • Being a source of information and support to other parents
  • Providing feedback and evaluation information about their child’s progress
 

Program staff can help parents by:

  • Providing information about growth and development
  • Providing information about the child’s developmental delay
  • Modeling instructional techniques and strategies to facilitate learning in the home
  • Provide information about community resources and training
  • Providing information and resources on advocacy
