Volunteers are "Priceless”

Photo of volunteers

Throughout the year, there are many individuals who contribute their time and talents as volunteers in various Board programs and activities. Over the past year, approximately 120 volunteers gave of their time and talents to various activities such as parties and picture day at Happy Day School, Parent Council activities such as the spring carnival, rummage sale, Santa’s workshop, and the craft show.  More than half of the volunteers gave their time to a variety of Special Olympic sports during the year.  The annual Special Population Basketball Shootout held in January was a huge success. This event has been sponsored and conducted by the member councils of the Portage County Knights of Columbus for 35 years!

On Thursday May 17, 2012 a reception was held at Happy Day School to honor those volunteers who could attend and recognize these very special persons. Director of Children’s Services, Gail McAlister, assisted by Debbie Kempisty and Tandi Knepper, Happy Day clerical staff, organized the reception. Volunteers were presented with a certificate of recognition, a small potted geranium, and a canvas tote bag. Superintendent Macke and Special Olympics Coordinator Diana Harrod assisted Ms. McAlister with the presentation of certificates. Cookies, cake, and punch were also served.

The photograph above shows those volunteers who were able to attend the reception. To them and all of the volunteers not able to attend, the Board extends its most sincere appreciation and a most grateful thank you. You are truly “PRICELESS”!
