Employment Benefits

Portage County Board of DD recognizes that healthcare insurance is important to our employees. Our healthcare plan is designed to protect employees and their families against financial hardship in the event of a serious illness or injury and to encourage employees to take an active role in their healthcare. Contributions are payroll deducted on a pre-tax basis. We offer the following to eligible employees:
 
  • A comprehensive medical plan with the following provisions:
  • Major medical coverage with $100 per person/$200 per family calendar year deductible.
  • Prescription drug coverage with $3.00 – generic, $10.00 – formulary and $20.00 – non-formulary retail co-pays.
  • Vision coverage.
  • Dental coverage.
  • Portage County Board of DD provides $50,000 term life insurance with an opportunity to purchase additional coverage up to a maximum limit of $300,000
  • Employees may receive monetary compensation conveniently by direct deposit.
  • Upon completion of the first year of employment, PCBDD offers two weeks of paid vacation. The amount of vacation time earned increases based on length of service.
  • Eight paid holidays are provided each year for full-time permanent non-bargaining unit employees. They include the following: New Year's Day, Martin Luther King Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. President’s Day will be considered a paid holiday if all Board programs are closed that day.
  • Employees earn sick leave at the proportionate rate of 4.6 hours for each 80 hours in active pay status. Full-time, part-time permanent, and part-time seasonal staff are granted three days of leave for bereavement in the event of a death of an immediate family member.
 
Ohio Public Employees Retirement System: Public employees in the state of Ohio are required by law to participate in the Ohio Public Employees Retirement System. The system provides retirement disability and other benefits and is entirely independent of the federal Social Security system. Contributions are payroll deducted. Listed are the current employee and employer contribution rates:
 
  • General employee contribution rate: 10 percent of earnable salary.
  • Employer contribution rate: 14 percent basis of reportable payroll.
 
State Teachers Retirement System: Licensed Ohio Department of Education teachers are required by law to participate in this system. The system provides retirement, disability and other benefits and is entirely independent of the federal Social Security system. Contributions are payroll deducted. Listed are the current teacher and employer contribution rates:
 
  • Teacher contribution rate: 10 percent of earned salary.
  • Employer contribution rate: 14 percent basis of reportable payroll.
 
Portage County Board of DD employees are offered the opportunity to participate in three different deferred compensation programs — the Ohio Public Employees Deferred Compensation Program, the County Commissioners Association of Ohio Deferred Compensation Program and the Financial Network of America Deferred Compensation Program.
 
  • These are supplemental retirement benefit plans regulated by Section 457 of the Internal Revenue Code.
