Transportation Department Takes Delivery of Three New School Buses

Photo of the front of a new Type A Bus. The Transportation Department took delivery of three new Type A school buses on April 15, 2013. Type A (“cutaway van”) school buses are the smallest of school bus types typically with a gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR) under 10,000 pounds. The vehicles were competitively bid and were purchased from Myers Equipment Corporation of Canfield for a total price of $169,761.00 ($59,000.00 per vehicle).

According to Jennifer Weaver, Supervisor of Transportation Services, each bus is equipped with a wheelchair lift, an electronic vehicle inspection reporting system (on all Board vehicles), a GPS vehicle tracking/diagnostics system, two-way mobile radio, and standard first-aid and safety equipment (all of which are standard on all Board vehicles). The buses can be configured to accommodate three wheelchairs and up to 10 seated passengers (this number varying by the number of wheelchairs).

These buses will be used to transport toddlers, preschoolers, and school age children attending Happy Day School during the school year as well as individuals who will be attending the Rotary Camp at Happy Day School.
