Ohio Self Determination Association Regional August Meeting Recap

Welcome Self Advocates The Stepping Out Leading with Abilities Self-Advocacy Group from Portage County hosted The Ohio Self Determination Association Regional meeting at The Kent American Legion Hall August 21st. There was an incredible turn out as over 100 members attended the meeting. Kristi Earle led a discussion on what steps people need to take to move out on their own. She provided information and answered questions relating to rent, utilities, roommate choices, programs that are available to help those with financial concerns and constraints.
 
After the discussion, members heard a presentation by Dana Charlton, Executive Direction of the Ohio Self-Determination Association, about the upcoming Stir Conference Steps Toward Independence & Responsibility which is a “train the trainer” approach that includes small work group activities, role play, and presentations. The meeting wrapped up with voting on the next topic for the upcoming meeting. The next meeting will focus on relationships and how to handle anger issues in relationship when and if they arise.
